Coexistence

Fashion photography, most easily described as devotion to display fashion and clothing on beautiful models for commercial use. Fine art photography, most easily described as a way for an artist to share his or her view or opinion with others and is not based off of a commercial commission. In the photography world, fashion photography and fine art photography are not typically associated with each other for these reasons.

My subject is Carson Meyer. She is very personable, photogenic, as well as stylish, and she has the look of the kind of person I was seeking to fit the ‘model in a commercial photo shoot’ look. I shot this in the studio to create the fashion photography feel, and the single shots alone looked incredibly commercial. I used my knowledge of design and Photoshop to manipulate the images in a way that I was able to create patterns that abstracted the commercial feel but still kept it present. My goal is to play with the ‘separate’ worlds of fashion photography and fine art photography and have them be together, in coexistence.
